My mom has been making this recipe for salsa as long as I remember. For all I know she was feeding it to me in a bottle. Maybe that's why I have a high tolerance for spicy foods, hmmmm. Anyway, every time I make this for someone new, they comment on how fresh it takes but in fact all of the ingredients are from a can. It's always a hit! Try it. You can make it as hot or mild as you like.
Mom's Famous Salsa
1-10 oz can Rotel (diced tomatoes & green chilies) you can get this mild, reg or hot
1-28 oz diced or whole tomatoes, drained
1-2 tsp cumin
1-2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp dried onions (if desired)
You can add peppers if you'd like-they make it pretty spicy. Put all ingredients in a blender. Blend to desired consistency. If it needs to be a little thicker, you can add a little bit of tomato paste. Refrigerate leftovers for up to a week or so.
2 drops vinegar
